Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
The things people most want to know about privacy, backups, and getting started.
Where is my data stored?
On your phone, only. My People has no servers and never receives your information. There are no accounts to create and nothing is uploaded — which is why the app qualifies for the App Store's "Data Not Collected" label.
How do I back up my data?
Go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Create Backup. You'll choose a password that encrypts the file, then save it wherever you like — Files, email, or your own cloud. Because the backup is encrypted with a password only you know, keep it somewhere safe: it can't be recovered if you lose it.
I got a new phone. How do I move my data?
Create a backup on your old phone, transfer the file to your new one, then open My People and go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Restore from Backup. You'll enter the password you chose when creating it.
Does the app work offline?
Yes — it's fully offline by design. Everything happens on your device, so you never need a connection to use it.
Is it really free? What's the catch?
It's genuinely free — no download fee, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no data collection. There's no catch. If the app brings you value and you'd like to help cover the ongoing costs of building and maintaining it, there's an optional way to support the project on the home page.
Do you sell or share my information?
We can't — we never have it. Your notes, contacts, and details never leave your device and are never transmitted to us or anyone else. There's no central database because there's no central anything.
What does the "Detect Info" feature do?
When you paste or type a note, Detect Info can surface names, dates, and details to help you fill in a profile. It runs entirely on your device — on iPhone it uses Apple's on-device intelligence where available, and on Android it uses on-device pattern matching. The note text is never sent to us or to any server.
How does calendar syncing work?
My People reads the calendar already on your device — nothing is uploaded, and it stays on your phone. For an upcoming event, the app links attendees to people in your list automatically when their email address in the invitation matches a contact. When there's no email match, it suggests links based on the names in the event title, which you can confirm or skip. You can always link someone manually, too. For recurring events, it remembers who you linked last time — so your weekly standup or monthly dinner is ready without redoing the work.
Is My People accessible?
Accessibility is core to the app, not an afterthought. The whole interface follows your phone's text size, works with VoiceOver and TalkBack, and offers higher-contrast and reduced-motion options. It was built first for neurodivergent brains, and designed to be calm and readable for everyone.
Which devices does it run on?
My People is coming to iPhone (via the App Store) and Android (via Google Play). Both versions keep your data on your own device.
